The challengeSimplify an ageing and complex digital ecosystem to unlock the group’s potential
With nearly a century of history, Interflora has built a unique business model, pioneering flower delivery through a network of local florists. However, the group faced a major challenge: a completely fragmented digital ecosystem, with multiple platforms (Magento, Hybris, Drupal, custom-built solutions) and a lack of synergy between the brand’s various country operations. This heterogeneity led to high maintenance costs, slow implementation of changes and difficulty managing the group’s growth due to the specific technical limitations of each of the monolithic e-commerce systems.
As part of our digital transformation, we chose Kaliop as a strategic partner to strengthen our Product & Tech teams. Their seamless integration into our agile organisation, structured into squads, has enabled us to accelerate delivery while controlling costs and maintaining strong data-driven management. We were able to evaluate and select the best candidates to ensure a perfect fit with our internal needs. Beyond execution, Kaliop provided 360-degree consulting, from problem analysis to delivery measured by KPIs, which helped us gain efficiency and save time.

Modernising technology assets and accelerating deployment
Faced with these constraints, Interflora reimagined its digital strategy to create a composable and scalable ecosystem with global reach. The goal was to rebuild modern, solid foundations across infrastructure, backends and frontends and to gradually migrate these new technology assets country by country. The challenge was to transform the organisation from a portfolio of independent companies into an integrated and cohesive group.
A composable architecture for gradual and sustainable transformation
Kaliop supported Interflora in adopting a composable / MACH architecture. The project began with a redesign of the French frontend, using a Kubernetes architecture, a Nuxt/Vue frontend and Apollo GraphQL as a Backend-For-Frontend (BFF) to interface with legacy Hybris APIs and new microservices. This intermediate BFF layer enabled communication with APIs from heterogeneous systems and ensured a gradual migration without service disruption. The approach was replicated in each country, with certain legacy APIs being migrated directly or gradually to headless SaaS solutions such as DatoCMS and Commercetools.
Technology-driven vision for business performance
This transformation has enabled Interflora to significantly improve its operational efficiency, flexibility and time-to-market. The new architecture, designed for scalability, ensures business continuity, even during periods of high traffic. Thanks to centralised governance and close collaboration, Interflora is now able to adapt quickly to customer needs and position itself as an innovative leader in its market.
Today, Kaliop is also supporting Interflora with project management for the Swedish and Danish migrations and this composable architecture enabled the mobile app to be built in React Native in less than 5 months.
